Join us to learn the secrets of Dutch oven and share some New Years wishes!
According to tradition in the American South eating black eyed peas on New Years will bring prosperity for the coming year. For some it is just superstition, for some it is a fun family treat, and for some it is a matter of grave importance!
This year, learn the art of making delicious black eyed peas in a Dutch Oven.
Demonstration will take place at the park visitor center in the Tom Mays unit. Drop in to see us for ten minutes or hang by the fire for a few hours!
Pro tip: come early to learn about fire building and Dutch Oven maintenance or show up later when the food will be ready to sample (around 1:00 pm).
Directions:
- From Westside on I-10, take exit 6 & travel east towards mountains for 3.8 miles. Park entrance will be on the left.
- From Eastside on Hwy 54, take exit 29 towards Transmountain Rd, travel west 7-7.5 miles over/through the mountains. Park entrance will be on the right.
- If using a GPS be sure to search for "2900 Tom Mays Access Road," not "Franklin Mountains State Park."
