Homeschool Classes in the Natural Area

Experience Honey Creek State Natural Area as an outdoor classroom in this program for school-age kids!

Honey Creek State Natural Area's homeschool program is a set of outdoor classes for homeschool kiddos grades K-5. Classes are usually held on the second full week of the month (September through May--excluding January), and you can choose between Wednesday at 10am, Thursday at 10am or Friday at 10am. We will cover a different topic every month, so don’t miss out! 

Topics:
September- Tracks and Traces: Reading the Land Like a Naturalist
October- Creepy, Crawly, and Cool: Insects & Arthropods
November- Fire on the Land: The Role of Fire in the Hill Country
December- Nocturnal Nature: Creatures of the Night

Registration: Program is limited to 25 students. Registration will open up on August 15, 2025 at 9am.
Please register only if you are sure your child can attend. If your plans change, email jessica.bergner@tpwd.texas.gov to cancel so that another child can have that spot. There is no waitlist. Registrations will be altered, and you will be dropped if no-shows occur.

Prepare: Dress for the weather and bring water
Meet: Honey Creek State Natural Area (Directions and logistics will be emailed out on the Friday the week before classes)
Fees: None; Entry fees will be waived under an educational waiver for the student and their parent or guardian
