Hill Country History Hike

Hike the Hill Country State Natural Area for the New Year. First Day Hike in the West Verde Creek Valley gets you into the Texas Hill Country ranching experience.

This First Day Hike brings you through the grasslands, creek beds, and historic ranching structures as we hike a loop of the Bar-O, Prairie, and Wildlife Trails.

The hiking path is mostly flat but does include some rocky and uneven surfaces. 

Distance: 2 miles total

We will meet at the Trailhead Equestrian Camping Area parking lot.

Please dress for the weather. Wear comfortable shoes for hiking. Bring plenty of water, camera, binoculars, hiking sticks or staff.

Cost: Program is free with park admission ($6 for visitors 13 years and older, free for visitors 12 and younger; free for Texas State Parks Pass holders). Day-use reservations are highly recommended to ensure your entrance to the State Natural Area.
