First Day Hike in the Texas Hill Country for the New Year. Explore 40 miles of trail system on a self-guided hike through the fields, pastures, and creek beds or up and over the scenic overlooks of Hill Country State Natural Area.

Check in at Headquarters. Grab a map and explore Hill Country SNA via the 40-mile trail system. Experience challenging terrain while gaining elevation to summit the peaks for outstanding views or tread trails through fields, pastures, and creek beds of the former Bar-O Ranch on a self-guided hike. 

How to participate: Once you are finished with your hike stop by HQ (8:45am -4pm) to record your miles and receive your First Day Hike sticker (while supplies last). 

Please dress for the weather. Wear comfortable shoes for hiking. Bring plenty of water for drinking, camera, binoculars, hiking sticks, or staff.

Cost: Program is free with admission ($6 for those 13 years and older, free for 12 years and younger; free to State Parks Pass holders. Day-use reservations are highly recommended to ensure your entrance to the State Natural Area.
