First Day Hike, Bike, Run, Paddle

Join us by starting the New Year with multiple activities within the park.
Start the New Year off on the right foot (then left foot, right foot, left foot) by attending one of our many planned activities for New Year's Day.
- Hike at 11 pm Dec. 31: First up will be a hike with Ranger Jamie that will kick off shortly before midnight. We will be meeting at 11 pm at the Lake Trail Trailhead (Parking lot straight ahead from HQ) and hiking by 11:30pm to get to a specific spot on the trail for the countdown. To reiterate, if you arrive at the trailhead after 11:30pm we will already be gone. We hope to be able to provide hot chocolate or tea for everyone to help stay warm and celebrate. Bring a flashlight and warm clothes!!!
- Run at 8:30 a.m.: Next, Ranger Barrett will lead a short run (an hour or less) around the Lake and Pecan Flats trails starting at 8:30 am. Meet at the Lake Trail Trailhead (Parking lot straight ahead from the HQ building). Wear good running shoes and bring water please.
- Ride bikes at 11 am: Ranger Ted will lead a bike ride through the park and campgrounds. Meet at the Lake Trail Trailhead (Parking lot straight ahead from the HQ building). Bring your bike, helmet, and water.
- Paddle at 2 p.m.: Lastly once it warms up in the afternoon, from 2-3:30pm we will open up the Park's supply of canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats for use.
There will be a sticker given to the participants at each activity. If you are able to participate in 3 out of 4 activities you can get a special prize that will be held at the Park Store!
Park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass. On busy weekends, reserve your day pass early online! Please note: You do NOT need to register or make a reservation for this event, just be sure you have a day pass purchased for everyone attending.
