A flutter of color awaits! Join us for Painted Wings at Lake Whitney State Park, a colorful, family-friendly educational program to learn all about our native butterflies. Learn about the fascinating life cycles, habits, and local species of these delicate pollinators.

Start your journey by stopping at our HQ’s office between the hours of 9:00am -4:00pm to pick up your “Painted Wings Checklist form”. From there, head outside and follow the arrows to discover a series of engaging stations that will walk you through the fascinating cycle of butterflies found right here in Central Texas — from eggs, to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to beautiful adult butterflies. Along the way, you’ll enjoy: 🦋Easy to read educational displays 🦋Hands on learning moments 🦋Beautiful natural scenery 🦋A chance to discover facts about different local butterfly species 🦋Opportunity to take a photo with a life size Butterly 🦋A free 3-D butterfly keepsake Take your time and enjoy the trail!
