Painted Wings at Lake Whitney State Park

A flutter of color awaits! Join us for Painted Wings at Lake Whitney State Park, a colorful, family-friendly educational program to learn all about our native butterflies. Learn about the fascinating life cycles, habits, and local species of these delicate pollinators.
Participants will enjoy a light walk or hike along the beautiful Two Bridges Trail, stopping at designated butterfly signs along the way. At each stop, you’ll discover fun facts about our local butterfly species — and using your smartphone, you can scan QR codes to watch (1–3 minute) short videos that bring each butterfly’s story to life.
This event is ideal for families, children, and anyone curious about pollinators, art, and the beauty of the outdoors.
What to Bring:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
- Hat or sunglasses for sun protection
- Cell phone or camera to capture the beauty

Before you hit the trail, don’t forget to stop by HQ to:

✅ Sign in for the event
✅ Pick up your Painted Butterfly Questionnaire
Then, enjoy a stroll along the beautiful Two Bridges Trail, where you can answer a few fun questions as you go.
When you’ve completed your walk and filled out the questionnaire, head back to HQ anytime between 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. We’d love to hear about your adventure—and as a thank-you, you’ll receive a stunning butterfly token to commemorate the day!
