Join us as McKinney Falls State Park hosts the 2nd Annual Veteran Suicide Awareness Ruck on September 28, 2024. This event aims to raise awareness about veteran mental health and suicide. We ask participants to bring a pack or bag weighing 17 pounds to represent veterans lost to suicide every day. 17 pounds of canned foods is encouraged which will be donated to a local food bank.

Who is Invited: This hike is open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Where to Meet: We will meet at the Smith Visitor Center and head to the starting area on the Onion Creek Trail. The Onion Creek Trail is 2.8 miles and is paved making it ideal for mobility use. We will have a limited number of Grit Chairs available as well.

How to Prepare: Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and if desired, a snack.

Park fees will be waived for participants.
