Learn about the different pioneers through time who first saw Palo Duro’s walls on this hike.

Join our rangers in this informative stroll with the pioneers of the canyon. We will be hiking along the Pioneer Nature Trail; an easy 0.5-mile loop near the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River. During our hike, we will stop and discuss and how water played a role in why they came to the canyon.

Things You Should Know:

  • Meet: Pioneer Nature Trailhead, at the far end of the Mack Dick Pavilion Parking Lot.
  • Bring: Weather appropriate clothing (jackets, etc.), sunscreen, plenty of water, and comfortable walking/hiking shoes or boots (they will get sandy).
  • Cost: Included with admission to the park. Park admission is free with a Texas State Park Pass(purchased before event).

This program may be cancelled due to weather.

No Pre-registration required.
