The Geology of Pedernales Falls

Geology is a science that gives us stories from the past, and helps us predict what the future may look like! Join Ranger Steve as we explore not only the recent past, and how Pedernales Falls has formed, but also the ancient past, with creatures that lived here 300 million years ago!

Meet at the Main Falls Overlook (1/4 Mile hike down to overlook from parking lot)

Schedule: 30 minute presentation on the geology and fossils found here, followed by 30 minute hike down to the oldest rocks and fossils in the park. Hike ends there and you can continue on your own to explore the area!

Wear comfortable hiking clothing for the weather! The hike will be about 1/2 a mile through some rough terrain. (Longer if you choose to hike more)

- Child and dog friendly (Dogs must be on leash at all times in the park)

- For guaranteed entrance to the park during our busiest days, purchase your day pass online! Go to our website for more information. Don't get turned away at the gate!

- Normal Entrance fees required to enter the park, no additional fees or registration required to attend this event.
