Prescribed Fire Workshop
Sat, April 27, 2024
M.O. Neasloney WMA
20700 State Highway 80 North
Gonzales, Tx 78629
This workshop is designed to give landowners and managers a basic understanding of the use and application of prescribed fire to manage habitat for wildlife and forage for livestock.
Wildlife and livestock benefit from prescribed fire as it stimulates new plant growth and enhances wildlife habitat. Game and nongame wildlife require healthy, diverse plant communities for both food and cover. Prescribed fire also reduces woody plant encroachment and is beneficial for many native plant species in a way mechanical and chemical management treatments cannot duplicate.
Topics include:
- Local Prescribed Fire Resources
- The Role of Fire in Plant Management
- Grazing to Burn and Burning to Graze
- Fire Weather
- Smoke Management
- Fire Line Preparation
- Fire Suppression Equipment
- Planning the Burn
- Prescribed Burn Associations
The M.O. Neasloney Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located approximately 2 miles north of Belmont, between Luling and Belmont, in Gonzales County.
Please RSVP by contacting Calan Coleman by April 18. Lunch to be provided.
