Student Research Pages - The Milky Way

Cover-Stars

All the stars you see live in the same galaxy as us - the Milky Way, which contains between 200 and 400 billion stars!

Galaxies

These are all spiral galaxies just like our own Milky Way Galaxy. (Used by permission of The University of Texas McDonald Observatory.)

There are plenty of different kinds of galaxies in outer space. What kind is the Milky Way? A spiral galaxy. Ever notice a thick "milky" stream of stars running through the night sky? That's part of a spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy.
