Rules for TPW Television 30th Anniversary Contest

Thank your for your interest in submitting an entry into the 30th Anniversary Texas Parks & Wildlife TV Show Contest. Your entry will help us inspire Texans to get outdoors and visit the natural places in our state, while also providing a compelling reason for viewers to care about their outdoor and cultural heritage. It’s our hope that they’ll develop a new appreciation for the natural world, a world that’s right here in our backyard.

Person who submits the winning entry will get their choice of appearing on their featured TV segment or being part of the behind-the-scenes TV crew—along with other great prizes including:

  • A HERO4 Silver Edition GoPro® video camera ($400 value) from Whole Earth Provision Co.
  • 3-Night stay at any La Quinta in Texas. ($300 value).
  • $300 gift certificate from Whole Foods Market.
  • A co-branded Yeti “Roadie 20” cooler ($300 value) and $200 in Visa/Amex gift cards – donated by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation.
  • A $100 gift certificate for outdoor clothing or products, provided by Whole Earth Provision Co.
  • An annual Texas State Park pass ($70 value).
  • Other prizes yet to be determined may be added at any time during the contest period.

Winners will be announced on the Texas Parks & Wildlife main home page, the TV show webpage, TPWD social media, email, and in a press release. TPWD shall credit the winning episode on TV with the winner’s name in the credits at the end of the episode.

Judging Criteria for Winning Entries

  1. All entries must be your own work and of original content. The story idea must not be offensive or involve anything dangerous (i.e. cliff diving, drone wars).
  2. Entries will be judged on: a. how relevant the story idea is to the TPWD mission statement b. how interesting we feel the idea would be to all of our viewers c. how effectively the story idea is communicated in the contest entry form.
  3. Possible topics for story ideas:
    - Texas State Parks (fun activities to do there, cultural stories or historical angles, etc.)
    - Native wildlife in Texas
    - Fishing or hunting in Texas
    - Person(s) who love the outdoors in Texas
    - Technology and the outdoors
    - Children and the outdoors
    - Conservation (land, water, parks, wildlife)
    - Nature-based outdoor activities.
  4. All entries must uploaded using the online form on TPWD website between October 20, 2015 and May 31, 2016 (11:59 PM CST).
  5. Each participant may enter up to two story ideas, not to exceed 250 words each.
  6. TPWD retains the sole discretion over the selection of, and decision not to select, any particular entry as a winner. TPWD shall determine the winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by judges are final.

Contest Dates

  • Contest will begin on October 20 and end on May 31, 2016.
  • Winners will be selected by August 15, 2016 and contacted on or about August 30, 2016 through their email account.
  • Winners will be required to respond to TPWD via email within 10 days or an alternate winner will be selected.
  • Winning episode will be aired in fall 2017 season. Exact timing will depend on the subject of the episode, availability, season, etc.

Eligibility

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) contests are open to all people except employees of TPWD or of any sponsors of the TV Show Contest, and the immediate families of such employees. The contest is open to all other participants regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.

Other Terms and Conditions

By participating in this contest, entrants agree to these terms and conditions:

  • Winner who appears in the winning episode must sign a talent release.
  • Winners must have the consent of those people about whom an episode could be made and/or whose faces might be featured in an episode.
  • Winners under the age of 18 must have signed consent form by a legal parent or guardian before they are eligible to receive their prize.
  • The winners are solely responsible for paying any taxes, fees, and surcharges on any prizes; winners can decline any prizes if they wish.
  • TPWD reserves the right to refuse entries that contain violent or offensive material or trademarked or copyrighted ideas.
  • TPWD is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected or incomplete entries or technical errors or difficulties.
  • TPWD reserves the right to adjust the contest deadline if appropriate.
  • Winner will release and hold harmless TPWD, its employees and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Contest or any prize won. Restrictions, conditions, and limitations apply.
  • Winner will grant TPWD a nonexclusive right and royalty free license, in perpetuity to publicize the winning entry for TPWD purposes in any format, including on TPWD’s website, social media accounts and in TPWD’s publications or presentations, such as newsletters, brochures, magazine issues, fundraising appeals, public service announcements, grant proposals, reports, awards, thank-you cards, displays, mailings and invitations.
  • Winner will grant, in connection with the Contest, use and disclosure of their name, city, state and country of residence for TPWD promotions and communication vehicles as TPWD deems appropriate.
  • By submitting an entry, entrant gives TPWD full rights to the story idea. All non-winning entrants understand that they will receive no compensation if their idea is used in its entirety or in part of a future episode of TPWD Television Show.
