Belton Fishing Report

Jul 10, 2024
SLOW. Water stained; 84 degrees; 3.45 feet above pool. Lake Belton is 3.45 feet high after rapidly falling 2.15 feet over the past week. The water is still a turbid, green-brown tint. Although access returned to most ramps last week, courtesy docks are still unusable at most locations. Fishing is very tough while all species of fish are scattered and suspended. Fish are focused primarily on young of the year shad which are present in abundance. White bass and hybrid stripers can be caught downrigging just above the band of bait holding at 20-25 feet below the surface. Use a small Pet Spoon in silver with a white tail on a multi-rig, so four baits can be trolled behind each downrigger. Surface activity has been limited compared to what is typical at this time of year. Most of what action has been small, young-of-the-year white bass of 3.5-4 inches in length. Still, it is worth keeping a topwater rod at the ready for any schools that may pop up, as they typically do not stay up long. Report by Bob Maindelle, Holding the Line Guide Service. Catfish are fair. The action has slowed for blue catfish compared to prior weeks but anglers can still be successful. Anchoring around underwater points and slow drifting deeper river channels has been best. Smaller baits have had the most success rates such as cut shad, perch and chicken can be used. Flathead activity has picked up around river mouths and structure. As the catfish continue to spawn anglers shouldn’t be afraid to fish the shallow flats. Report by Brian Worley, B&S Catfishing.
