May 22, 2024
GOOD. Water stained; 75 degrees; 49.00 feet below pool. Fishing patterns are similar and the water continues to drop. The best place to launch is at the State Park off the gravel and rock points while the lake level is low. Bass are excellent with numbers being caught in 15-20 feet of water casting to shallow rocky areas with deep diving crankbaits, football jigs, and dropshots. Catfish are good with catches up to 30 pounds on muddy flats leading into the river channel in 3-10 feet of water with fresh cut bait on a santee rig or Kentucky rig to keep the bait out of the mud. Keeper catfish are good using small shad or shrimp fished in 12-25 feet of water on deep structure in the river channel. Crappie are slow. Bowfishing for gar is excellent with numerous catches over 7 feet on the south end. Rod and reel anglers are catching gar up to 3 feet with cut carp and tilapia. Report by Ram Reyes, Ram Outdoors.
