Offsite Outreach
Sea Center Texas’ summer interns engage the public in fisheries science by taking interactive learning programs to offsite events and schools. From mobile touch tanks to seining the bays, our interns will have a wide variety of opportunities to interact with the community.
Summer Camps
Interns are instrumental in implementing Sea Center’s Summer Camps. Every Friday throughout the summer, interns lead campers through squid dissections, anatomy lessons, fishing practice, wetland bug collections, & more!
Presentations
Interns may have the opportunity to make both formal and informal presentations during their time at Sea Center Texas.
Special Events
Gearing up for special events like Shark Celebration is one of the most fun parts of interning at SCT. Interns may help with event logistics, art projects, creating displays, or manning an education station.
Cross-Training
To effectively communicate fisheries science to the community, it is essential that our interns spend some time learning about Sea Center’s hatchery operations. Interns may have the opportunity to prepare fish diets, collect eggs, stock ponds, and release fingerlings into the bay.
And so much more!
Interns will also have an opportunity to take part in various other projects, such as planning and hosting volunteer awards nights, assisting with fishing events, cleaning the aquariums (certified divers only), serving in the visitor center as a greeter or gift shop clerk, and administrative tasks like scheduling tours & answering phone calls.
