Registration is required.
All users must possess required permits, stamps or license. All public users (hunters and non-consumptive users) of the Matador WMA must check in upon entering and check out upon departure. This should be done at the self-registration station located next to the WMA headquarters. Users may not possess a firearm, archery equipment, crossbow, or other device for taking wildlife resources on the MWMA area except during designated hunts and with proper permits in possession. Persons may not enter Restricted Areas identified by boundary signs and/or marked on MWMA maps, or those areas identified verbally by WMA personnel.
Users may not be under the influence of alcohol or consume alcoholic beverages while engaged in hunting activities, or publicly consume or display an alcoholic beverage while on the MWMA.
The Annual Hunting Permit allows an adult access to Matador WMA designated public hunting for small game, turkey, quail, mule and white-tailed deer, and predators without having to pay a daily entrance fee. An Annual Public Hunting APH Permit is not needed for Special Permit hunts when drawings are conducted at Texas Parks and Wildlife Headquarters in Austin. In order to make young people aware of the need for proper management of wildlife resources and introduce them to the sport hunting ethic, holders of an Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit may take youth under age 17 hunting free of charge (with the required license and stamps) on the Matador WMA,. NOTE: If a drawing for a Special Permit hunt (e.g., deer archery) is held by Matador WMA personnel, an Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit is required. The Limited Public Use (LPU) Permit allows an adult to enter, camp, bird watch, hike, horseback ride, etc on the Matador WMA but they may not hunt or fish on the interior waters of the Matador WMA or possess firearms or archery equipment. A non-hunting or non-fishing adult assisting a permitted disabled person is not required to possess either the Annual Public Hunting Permit (APH) or a Limited Public Use (LPU) Permit.
