Wildlife Viewing

Wildlife Viewing Permitted

Viewing wildlife is an enjoyable activity that is available in many of the Wildlife Management Areas of Texas.

The newest addition to the Pat Mayse WMA is the "duck pond". This forty acre moist soil unit is located on WMA property below the Pat Mayse dam. Visitors can use the permanent bird viewing blind to observe waterfowl, shorebirds, and occasionally other wildlife.

Those wishing to visit the duck pond can take US 271 North from Paris to Midcity where they will head West on FM 906 which passes over the Pat Mayse Dam. Handicapped parking is available, and work is ongoing to make the parking lot, walkway, and blind fully handicapped accessible. This area is open to the public with no permit requirements.
