Viewing wildlife is an enjoyable activity that is available in many of the Wildlife Management Areas of Texas.

Mad Island WMA staff offers tours in the spring and fall. Designated paths through the levees around the lake and onto Texas Nature Conservancy land along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway offer bird watchers opportunities to observe over 300 species of birds. A checklist of birds recorded in the area is available at the entrance.

Mad Island Wildlife Management Area is one of many wildlife viewing sites along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail.
