The Welder Flats Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is open year-round for saltwater fishing, duck hunting and wildlife viewing activities. Visitors do not need a permit to enter the WMA. The WMA is underwater in the San Antonio Bay. To get to the WMA is by boat. The water over the WMA is public waters. Any exposed dry land is privately owned and not part of the WMA. To hunt and fish on the public waters of the WMA, visitors must use a boat and have hunting and fishing licenses with associated stamps and endorsements.
Directions
The Welder Flats WMA is located offshore in San Antonio Bay between the Texas mainland and Matagorda Island just south of Seadrift. From Victoria drive US 87 south for 28 miles to Port Lavaca. At Port Lavaca drive on SH 238 about 20 miles southwest to Seadrift. Tour boats depart from Seadrift and travel to the Victoria Barge Canal to the intersection with the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The WMA viewing area is about 17 miles from Seadrift in the bay.
