M.K. Brown Boy Scout Camp

From Wheeler, take TX 152 west 5.6 miles to FM 3182. Turn north on FM 3182 and go for 3.2 miles to the camp entrance on the left.
The camp has several prairie, woodland, marsh and lake habitats, and a full-time camp ranger. Spring Creek feeds the 60 acre Lake Mack Dick. This camp offers excellent wildlife viewing and Boy Scouts can meet all the requirements for any wildlife merit badge. Woodland and prairie birds and owls can all be seen. White-tailed Deer, Wild Turkey, Northern Bobwhites and many small mammals including beaver are found at the camp. In the evenings Eastern Screech-Owls and bats excite the scouts. Public access may conflict with Boy Scout activities, particularly in summer, so call ahead to confirm availability. Open daily, check for seasonal closures.

Wheeler City Park

From the intersection of US 83 and TX 152 in Wheeler, go south on US 83 for 0.2 mile. Turn left/east on E 7th and go another 0.2 mile to the park on the right.
This pleasant city park has a creek running through it that attracts various dragonflies and butterflies. Look for migrating songbirds in the large shade trees throughout the park.
The Greenhouse Place

This site has an attractive pond with waterfowl and a beautiful wooded creek that provides excellent habitat for dragonflies, woodland birds and other wildlife. Those interested in plants will find exploration along the creek very enjoyable.
