AUSTIN – More validation that everything’s bigger and better in Texas, dove populations are soaring and the hunting season, which gets underway Sept. 1, is the longest in 80 years.

Sea Scouts Help Move Dickinson Bayou Wetland Restoration Project to Next Phase

DICKINSON — The next phase of the Dickinson Bayou Wetland Restoration Project began this month at the NRG EcoCenter in Baytown. Sea scouts and other volunteers “culled” or pulled smooth cordgrass from the on-site nursery to be planted at the newly constructed wetland restoration project in Dickinson Bayou.

The Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) is honoring conservation professionals from several western states with awards lauding their work to conserve fish and wildlife resources. Clay Brewer from Texas and Bill Bates from Utah have each been honored with the Professional of the Year Award.

Surge in Water Fatalities a Stark Reminder to Practice Safe Boating

AUSTIN – An alarming spike of boating-related fatalities on Texas waterways, including many involving paddle craft such as canoes and kayaks, is prompting a call for boaters to wear life jackets, avoid drinking alcohol and follow other safety practices heading into the peak summer boating season.

Texas Parks and Wildlife, Harris County Award $10 Million in Grants

As part of a long-term effort to assess and mitigate environmental impacts from toxic waste pits along the San Jacinto River near I-10 east of Houston, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Harris County are awarding $10 million to provide new or expanded public recreation and access facilities along the river, plus fund environmental awareness and education efforts.
