Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame To Induct Famed Angler, Conservation Organization

ATHENS—The angler who caught the first entry into Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s ground-breaking big bass angler recognition program and the organization responsible for Texas having a year-around rainbow trout fishery will be inducted into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in June.

Master Naturalist Program Seeks Applicants

AUSTIN— Sixteen chapters of the Texas Master Naturalist program will be conducting training classes in the coming spring and summer months for volunteers wanting to learn about natural resource and conservation management.

Sheldon Lake State Park Launches Mobile Game

HOUSTON — Kids visiting Sheldon Lake State Park now have a new way of learning about the park’s natural environment through the use of a new phone app. Sheldon Lake State Park and Environmental Learning Center 15 miles east of downtown Houston has become the state’s first mission site for the Agents of Nature mobile game.

TPWD Releases Dove Lethality Study Findings

AUSTIN – Texas leads the nation in dove hunting with roughly a quarter million hunters bagging 5 million mourning doves each fall. Their success afield should not change with the type of shot used, according to the results of a just-released study examining the lethality of lead versus non-toxic shot for mourning dove.

Game Warden Named National Boating Officer of the Year

AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Warden John Thorne has been named Boating Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
