AUSTIN – If you’re looking for a different and healthier way to help your youngsters celebrate Halloween, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department invites you to visit its state parks and fisheries centers for some special treats.

AUSTIN – When most people think about Texas State Parks, natural gems such as Palo Duro Canyon, Garner and Inks Lake come to mind. But the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department also operates dozens of sites throughout the state dedicated to bringing history to life. TPWD has designated history as the Outdoor Activity of the Month for October.
AUSTIN – Grab the Global Positioning System device of your choice and head to a Texas State Park to try to locate hidden “caches” of weatherproof containers in the latest Texas State Park Geocache Challenge. The family friendly challenge kicks off today at almost 90 state parks, historic sites and other TPWD properties.
AUSTIN – Unlike the symphony of shotgun blasts signaling the opening weekend of dove season, few will hear the whisper soft “string music” of archery-only deer season. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of hunters making bowstring music; archery hunting stamp sales are up substantially this year, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Austin – Grab the kids and text your friends: Falls Fest 2012 is Oct. 13 from 10-4 at McKinney Falls State Park. Activities were announced this week for the annual festival which is free after park admission and open to the public.
