TPWD Increases License, Boat Registration Fees

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has approved increases to hunting and fishing licenses, as well as boat titling and registration fees. Most fees will increase by five percent and the increases take effect with the 2009-2010 license year, starting this fall for recreational hunting and fishing licenses.

National Fishing Day June 6 At Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center

ATHENS, Texas — The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens will kick off National Fishing and Boating Week by making a family fishing trip affordable with free admission for kids 12 and under plus free fishing for the whole family and free hot dogs and drinks from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6.

TPW Commission Okays Transfer of Boy Scout Camp to Texas Trails Council

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today approved the transfer of 91.3 acres of Abilene State Park property to the Boy Scouts of America, which officially has been leasing the land from the state for 60 years.

AUSTIN, Texas — Nearly half of the sites in the Texas State Parks system will conduct public hunts during the 2009-2010 hunting season. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved scheduled hunts on 44 state park units at its May 28 public hearing.

TPWD Announces Proposed Waterfowl Season Framework

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas will likely revert this fall to the standard 74-day season and six bird daily bag limit framework for ducks during the general waterfowl seasons. The department is proposing dates and bag limit possibilities based on a liberal season package, pending authorization of the federal framework for the Central Flyway by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Blanco County Ranch to Receive Leopold Conservation Award for Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — On May 27 in Austin, Selah-Bamberger Ranch Preserve in Blanco County will receive the 2009 Leopold Conservation Award for Texas from Sand County Foundation and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, part of the department’s Lone Star Land Steward Awards program.
