Community Archery Programming Provides Training for the Next Generation of Archers

AUSTIN — Hunting season throughout Texas is already in full swing but Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Community Archery Program aims to help future hunters prepare for next season or find a hobby with archery sports. Adaptive and accessible to most any audience, the program helps to facilitate the spread of archery skills to those hoping to bring home a meal of wild game, competitive archers and even target shooters who simply enjoy the social and health benefits that the sport has to offer.

Commission Approves Changes to Texas Exotic Aquatic Species Regulations

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved changes to regulations regarding harmful or potentially harmful fish, shellfish and aquatic plants along with associated fee rules on Tuesday November 10. The changes not only impact permit holders, but there are several key changes relevant to the general public. These new regulations go into effect January 11, 2021.

John Silovsky Named New Wildlife Division Director

AUSTIN — John Silovsky has been selected as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Wildlife Division Director. Silovsky began his career with TPWD in 2014 and served as the District Leader for the Post Oak Savannah Wildlife District before being promoted to the Wildlife Division’s Deputy Director position in 2019. He has been serving as the acting director of the division since July 2020.

Whooping Cranes Are Heading to the Texas Coast

AUSTIN — With the first sightings of iconic, endangered whooping cranes along the Texas coast, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is reminding Texans to be on the lookout for these impressive birds as they move through the state.

Free Entrance to Texas State Parks Nov. 8 in Honor of Veterans Day

AUSTIN— In honor of both active and retired military, daily entrance fees at Texas State Parks will be waived for all day-use visitors Sunday, Nov. 8.

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has announced the winners of this year’s Big Time Texas Hunts, following personal notification to these 14 lucky individuals. The winners were selected in a random drawing from 135,714 entries.

Giant Salvinia Detected on Lone Star Lake

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) discovered the presence of giant salvinia on Lone Star Lake during a recent fish population survey. This highly invasive plant is fast growing and can be a major threat to aquatic ecosystems.

TPW Commission Meeting, Annual Public Hearing to be Held Online Nov. 9-10

AUSTIN— Due to ongoing public health concerns across the state, the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPW) Commission’s Meeting and Annual Public Hearing will be streamed virtually on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) website Nov. 9 and 10.

TPWD Community Outdoor Outreach Program Recognized as 2020 Diversity and Inclusion Award Winner

AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP) received the 2020 Diversity and Inclusion Award during the 74th meeting of the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA) held virtually Oct. 26-28.
