ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame committee is seeking nominations for next year’s induction into the hall of fame. Nominees can be either individuals or organizations who’ve made important contributions to fishing in Texas.  Applications are being accepted through Nov. 1.

AUSTIN— September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and 16 Texas State Parks will be hosting hikes to shed light on this issue, which affects many veterans and their loved ones. The Veteran Suicide Awareness Ruck Hike, an annual event organized by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Veteran’s Liaison Nicole Mechler, allows families, friends and veterans to network and build a support system, as well as spread the word about veteran-specific mental health issues.

Texas Game Wardens Add Second Helicopter to Aviation Unit

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has added a new helicopter to its fleet of law enforcement aircraft. The 2023 Airbus H125 helicopter will allow the Texas Game Warden Aviation Unit to expand their statewide response capacity for natural disasters, search and rescue incidents, air patrols and more.

2024 Birding Classic Raises Significant Funds for Conservation Grants

AUSTIN — Notching a record number of participants, the 28th annual Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Great Texas Birding Classic raised $52,000 in conservation grants through team registrations and sponsorships to benefit native bird habitats and species. As the biggest, longest and wildest birdwatching competition in the United States, the Birding Classic has raised roughly $1.2 million for on-the-ground bird conservation grants since its inception.
