AUSTIN — Want to appreciate the beauty of Texas State Parks and stay indoors? Visit the The Art of Texas State Parks traveling exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science this summer to stay cool while enjoying the views and vistas found in parks. The exhibit, created in honor of the Centennial Celebration of Texas State Parks, will remain in Houston until October 1.

Seven Tips to Stay Safe During the Summer Heat

AUSTIN— The dog days of summer have certainly arrived, and with the soaring temperatures Texas State Parks is sharing seven tips to help Texans enjoy time outdoors safely. Last year, 47 state parks reported 141 heat-related illnesses in humans and pets. Since January 1, 77 heat-related incidents have already been reported, compared to 64 reported by this time last year.

Commissioners Authorize Preserving State Park

AUSTIN – At a special meeting, Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission authorized Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to file a petition for condemnation and pursue acquisition at fair market value of approximately 5,000 acres in Freestone County to preserve Fairfield Lake State Park and Fairfield Lake for public use.

AUSTIN— During Thursday’s public meeting, Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission unanimously voted to authorize Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) executive director to take all necessary steps to purchase approximately 5,000 acres in Freestone County including Fairfield Lake State Park.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Awards $5.14 Million in Recreational Trail Grants to Texas Communities

AUSTIN— During Thursday’s meeting, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved more than $5.14 million dollars in grants funding 15 construction projects and one educational development across the state.
