Caprock Canyons State Park Unveils New Exhibits Nov. 15

QUITAQUE, Texas—Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway will unveil new interpretive exhibits to help tell the park story, with guided tours and other activities planned for the general public Saturday, Nov. 15. The day before the public unveiling, dozens of students from area schools will get a sneak peek at the new exhibits Friday, Nov. 14.

New State Park Interpretive Exhibits Flourish With Increased Funds

The good news is, this fall a rich array of new interpretive exhibits and facilities is available for families seeking holiday excursions close to home, thanks to increased funding from the Texas Legislature.

TPWD, Partners Expanding Bighorn Sheep Restoration Efforts

AUSTIN, Texas — Expanded conservation efforts are in the offing for the desert bighorn sheep, an iconic symbol of wilderness in West Texas, with plans to extend bighorn restocking efforts into Big Bend Ranch State Park and elsewhere in the region as part of a comprehensive Desert Bighorn Sheep Restoration Plan.

First U.S. Sighting of Tiger Moth Reported at Falcon State Park

FALCON HEIGHTS, Texas-A species of tiger moth never before recorded in the United States was discovered last Friday, Oct. 3, at Falcon State Park in South Texas. Volunteer Park Naturalist Frances Bartle discovered the moth during a routine check at the park’s recreation hall.

Most Texas State Parks Recovering from Hurricane Ike

AUSTIN, Texas — Most of the Texas state parks in the path of Hurricane Ike have been cleaned up, have electricity again and are open for business. Galveston Island and Sea Rim state parks on the Gulf Coast, however, suffered catastrophic damage, and will be closed for some time.

Ike Evacuees Wait Out Storm At Texas State Parks

AUSTIN, Texas — More than 5,000 people took refuge from Hurricane Ike at 59 different state parks across Texas. Most of them, more than 2,000, stayed at Garner, including many from the Houston-Galveston area who vacation at the park each year.
