Commercial Gulf Shrimp Season Opens Saturday, July 15

AUSTIN- The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for both state and federal waters will reopen 30 minutes after sunset on Saturday, July 15. The opening date is based on an evaluation of the biological, social and economic impact to maximize the benefits to the industry and the public. The commercial gulf shrimp season has been closed since May 15.

AUSTIN – Texas Game Wardens logged nearly 13,000 patrol hours on state water bodies over the extended Fourth of July holiday weekend, conducting enhanced boating safety and compliance checks on 17,845 vessels carrying 60,673 boaters.

Galveston County Tax Office to offer boat registration and titling

GALVESTON COUNTY — Beginning July 5, the Galveston County Tax office will partner with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to provide boat titling and registration services to both visitors and residents of Galveston County. Previously, the only title and registration office in the county was the TPWD office in La Marque, about 20 minutes from the city of Galveston.

DENISON – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department fisheries biologists have concluded an investigation into a fish kill that occurred June 21 to 24 in the Paradise Cove area of the Big Mineral arm at Lake Texoma.

Invasive Zebra Mussels Discovered in Lake Travis

AUSTIN — Zebra mussels have been positively identified for the first time in Lake Travis in the Colorado River Basin in Central Texas, just weeks after biologists confirmed the aquatic invasive species had also spread to the Guadalupe River Basin.

Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Council awards $1.8 million in grants

AUSTIN — Last week, the Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Council approved over $1.8 million in funding for seven diverse projects spanning the Gulf Coast to the Red River, to the Piney Woods of East Texas, and the Texas Hill Country. The properties, which encompass over 16,000 acres of high-value working lands across Texas, will be permanently protected from development and fragmentation under a perpetual conservation easement each held by one of several land trusts operating in the state.

Battleship Texas Welcomes Visitors Back Saturday

LA PORTE— The Battleship Texas State Historic Site is reopening to visitors Saturday after a weeklong closure to repair leaks in its hull. The 103-year-old battleship is a veteran of both World Wars, including two of World War II’s most infamous battles- Iwo Jima and D-Day.
