Missing Boater Recovered on Belton Lake, Search Continues for 2 on Richland Chambers Reservoir

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Game Wardens today recovered the body of Jarod David Dawkins, 27, who was missing since the boat he was on capsized March 17 near Sparta Valley Park on Belton Lake. Dawkins’ body was recovered at 9:03 a.m. just north of the water treatment plant near Westcliff Park.

Commission Adopts Sweeping Changes to Deer Regulations

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopted a series of wildlife and hunting related regulations that expand special buck antler restrictions and liberalize antlerless harvest opportunities in dozens of counties. The new rules take effect during the 2009-10 hunting seasons.

TPWD Proposals Would Increase Dove Bag, Extend Season

AUSTIN, Texas — Changes proposed for the 2009-10 Texas dove season include a 70 day season and 15 bird daily bag statewide, pending adoption of federal guidelines. Additionally, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced a proposal to move the South Zone opening to the Friday nearest Sept. 20, but no earlier than Sept. 17, which means it will open on Sept. 18 this year if approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in late June.

Changes in Flounder Regs to go into Effect Sept. 1, 2009

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioners today approved a reduction in the recreational and commercial bag limits for southern flounder and set a reduced bag limit for the month of November with take that month limited to hook and line.

Alligator Gar Bag Limit to go into Effect Sept. 1, 2009

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today approved a number of proposed changes to freshwater fishing regulations, including the state’s first measure aimed at protecting alligator gar. The prehistoric-looking predators can live as long as 75 years and are the largest freshwater fishes in Texas.

Tracy Large of Seguin Named Texas Wildlife Officer of the Year

AUSTIN, Texas — Game Warden Tracy Large of Seguin has been honored by the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) for his efforts in conserving America’s wildlife. Large was recognized as the NWTF’s Texas Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer of the Year at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting here March 26.

PRESIDIO, Texas — Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine chief photographer Earl Nottingham will join with a top Canon representative to host spring digital photography workshops at Big Bend Ranch State Park. The dates for the four-day workshops are May 17-20 and May 21-24.

Sea Center Texas solicita la participación del público en la selección de los nombres de dos populares miembros de la fauna marina que habita sus acuarios.

LAKE JACKSON, Texas — Sea Center Texas es un  acuario marino y centro para la conservación de la naturaleza que incluye un criadero de juveniles de peces marinos.  Este criadero de alta tecnología es posiblemente uno de los más grandes del mundo, y produce juveniles  de corvina roja y corvina pinta que se utilizan en un programa muy exitoso de  repoblación  en las costas de Texas.  Mantenido por el Departamento de Parques y Vida Silvestre o Texas Parks and Wildlife, el centro solicita la ayuda del público en la selección de los nombres de dos ejemplares muy populares de su fauna marina: un mero australiano y una anguila  verde.

Yantis Angler "Sweetens" ShareLunker Season

ATHENS, Texas—Bill Sweeten of Yantis pulled Lake Fork into a tie with Lake Conroe for the most ShareLunkers of the current season when he pulled a 14.43-pound bass from Lake Fork Monday.
