Rainbow Trout Fishing Heading to a Waterbody Near You

AUSTIN— The annual Texas winter tradition of rainbow trout stocking returns to waterbodies across the state to kick off the holiday season. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will stock thousands of rainbow trout beginning the week of Thanksgiving to give anglers a chance to catch one of these iconic fish.

Red Snapper Fishing Closes in State Waters November 20

AUSTIN- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will close red snapper fishing in state waters on Monday, Nov. 20, at 11:59 p.m. until January 2024. Federal waters remain closed until the summer.

Migrating Whooping Cranes Arrive on Texas Coast

AUSTIN – On November 1, the first pair of whooping cranes of the year were spotted flying toward the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge on the southwest side of San Antonio Bay. Their arrival is about 10 days later than last year, but well within the typical arrival window, according to Kevin McAbee, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Whooping Crane Coordinator.

Texas Game Warden Recognized During November Commission Meeting

AUSTIN – At Thursday’s Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting, Texas Game Warden Tyler Zaruba received recognition as the 2023 recipient of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Texas Boating Officer of the Year award.
