Duck Hunters Reminded to Follow Clean, Drain and Dry Requirements

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding waterfowl hunters to Clean, Drain and Dry before and after each trip to help avoid spreading invasive species like giant salvinia and zebra mussels. Unknowingly, waders, boats, trailers, even decoys can often harbor these invasive species, spread them to new places and destroy aquatic habitats.

AUSTIN – After 991 stories, 641 shows, 205 awards and countless reasons to explore the best of the Texas outdoors, the Texas Parks & Wildlife television show on PBS celebrates 30 years of entertaining, informing and inspiring viewers across the state. To celebrate the anniversary, viewers can enter a contest to get their story idea produced (see details below).

Cherokee Neches Paddling Trail Launches Oct. 17

JACKSONVILLE – Paddlers now have another reason to experience one of Texas’ wildest and most scenic rivers by traversing the latest addition to the Texas Paddling Trail system – the Cherokee Neches Paddling Trail. The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the trail at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct.17.

Texas Game Wardens Out in Force for Labor Day Weekend

AUSTIN — Texas game wardens will be patrolling the state’s public waters this Labor Day Weekend to make sure all boaters, anglers and swimmers get home safely. They will be on the lookout for boat operators who have had too much to drink.

Wood County Game Warden Honored

AUSTIN — Wood County Game Warden Kurt Kelley was recognized as the Association of Midwest Fish and Game Law Enforcement Officers’ Texas Officer of the Year at Thursday’s Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Executive Director Carter Smith presented the award for Kelley’s outstanding work as a law enforcement officer.
