EnCana Donation Funds School Service-Learning, Aquatic Habitat Restoration, Game Warden Training

AUSTIN, Texas — A $486,000 donation by natural gas producer EnCana Corporation to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation will fund a new grant program to get high school students out into natural settings for service-oriented learning projects, control of giant salvinia and other invasive plants choking Toledo Bend reservoir in East Texas, and much-needed facilities for the new Texas Game Warden Training Center.

Abandoned Crab Trap Drop-off Sites Announced

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials today announced drop-off sites for the 8th Texas Abandoned Crab Trap Removal Program, scheduled this year from Feb. 20 to March 1.

TPW Commissioner Parker Leaves Conservation Legacy

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioner John D. Parker died Monday afternoon in his Lufkin home, leaving a legacy of passionate advocacy for the wildlife, woods and waters he loved. The cause of Parker’s death has not been determined. He was 73.

Applicants Sought for Game Warden Academy

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is seeking qualified applicants for a game warden cadet class scheduled to start Nov. 1. Applications will be accepted beginning Feb. 2 through April 30.

$2.9 Million in Boat Ramp Grants Approved by TPW Commission

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today approved $2,922,255 to fund 13 boat ramp repair and renovation projects around the state. A total of 16 boat ramp grant applications requesting a total of $4,914,244 in matching funds were received.

Flounder, Paddle Craft Guides and Consistency with Fed Regs Top Coastal Fisheries Issues at TPW Commission Hearing

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioners Wednesday approved several proposed changes to saltwater fishing regulations recommended by TPWD Coastal Fisheries Division staff. The changes include new regulations dealing with flounder, federal consistency issues for sharks and other species, and a paddle craft licensing and training program. Scoping of these issues has been ongoing since the fall of 2008.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Game Warden Vance Wallace was recognized as the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies "Officer of the Year" today.

TPWD Seeks Volunteers to Remove Abandoned Crab Traps

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Hoping to add to the mountain of more than 24,000 derelict crab traps hauled from Texas bays since 2002, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials are gearing up for the 8th Texas Abandoned Crab Trap Removal Program, running this year from Feb. 20 to March 1.

Texas the State of Flowing Water Video Documentary To Air Feb. 12

AUSTIN, Texas — The one-hour video documentary Texas the State of Flowing Water will air at 8 p.m. central time, Thursday, Feb. 12 on all Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations in Texas. It is the fourth in an award-winning series of water resource documentaries produced by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and broadcast in partnership with PBS stations.
