Carter Smith Named TPWD Executive Director

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Carter Smith was named executive director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on Dec. 5 at a special meeting of the TPW Commission in San Antonio.  Smith will be leaving the helm at The Nature Conservancy of Texas to take the top job at TPWD.

Texas Clipper Resting on Port Side; TPWD Studying Options

AUSTIN, Texas — When the USTS Texas Clipper finally plunged beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico in a plume of spray at 12:35 p.m., Nov. 17, it’s fair to say the mood aboard many of the boats chartered to observe the sinking was euphoric.

Texas Clipper Artificial Reef Sinking Postponed

AUSTIN, Texas — A ship with three lives — World War II troop transport, New York City luxury liner, and sea cadet training vessel — is about to make her final journey. Weather permitting, the Texas Clipper will be sent to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico Nov. 17* to become an artificial reef.

Bryant Named Shikar-Safari Wildlife Officer of the Year

AUSTIN, Texas — Game Warden Jarrod E. Bryant of Marshall has been named “Texas Wildlife Officer of the Year” for 2007 by the wildlife conservation and hunting organization Shikar-Safari Club International.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Thursday approved the publication of proposed regulations that would require party boat operators to be licensed and their boats inspected and insured.

Bastrop’s 1st Annual NatureFest Celebrates New Paddling Trail Nov. 3

BASTROP, Texas– City and state officials will come together Saturday, Nov. 3, to officially launch the newest Texas Paddling Trail. El Camino Real Paddling Trail is a six-mile long route along the Colorado River that begins at Fisherman’s Park in downtown Bastrop. The trail will become the fourth inland paddling trail in Texas.
