Boating Season Kicks-Off With Good News, Bad News

AUSTIN, Texas — National Safe Boating Week kicked-off May 19 with a mixed message from the previous year. Overall, boating accidents, injuries and fatalities continued to decrease; however, with about half of the accidents involving alcohol and 85 percent of boating fatalities recovered not wearing life jackets, many of the incidents were preventable.

Public Invited To Participate in Reefing Program

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Artificial Reef Program is initiating a new reefing option in which organizations and members of the general public can participate. The new Public Reefing Program will enable persons to reef materials approved by TPWD at existing reef sites in the Gulf of Mexico that have been permitted to TPWD.

Boaters Urged To ‘Lift, Drift, Pole or Troll’ as New Seagrass Reg Takes Effect

ROCKPORT, Texas — The popular Redfish Bay area receives an extra measure of protection beginning May 1. On that date, a new regulation takes effect, prohibiting the uprooting of seagrass within the Redfish Bay State Scientific Area (RBSSA).

Texas Rivers Center Progress Hailed in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State University and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are inviting partners and news media to attend an April 26 grand reopening event to mark completion of $3.1 million in renovations to create a major educational and research facility devoted to Texas springs and aquifers and the river watersheds that feed them, as well as the lakes, bays and estuaries into which they flow.

First Inland Paddling Trail Opens in Luling

Luling, Texas — A long-forgotten landmark, a peaceful stretch of river and a 25-acre parcel of highway right-of-way were celebrated today as city and state officials officially opened the Luling Zedler Mill Paddling Trail.
