TYLER — The East Texas Woods and Waters Foundation (ETWWF) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will host two special fishing events in January 2010. Two thousand rainbow trout will be stocked into The Nature Center pond to provide a free fishing opportunity for area youth and their adult fishing mentors. Event dates are January 8 and 15, 2011, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., rain or shine.
WICHITA FALLS — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) district fisheries office in Wichita Falls recently completed crappie surveys on Lakes Buffalo Creek, Lost Creek, Possum Kingdom, Wichita and Petrolia. “Overall, the news is good for anglers of these lakes,” said TPWD’s Robert Mauk.
AUSTIN— If you find yourself fresh out of holiday gift ideas for your camping-enthusiast cousins or that friend who would rather spend his or her spare time fishing on the lake and exploring state parks, TPWD suggests you shop the outdoors.
AUSTIN — Years ago Texans had to drive to New Mexico or Colorado to catch a rainbow trout. But that was then. These days, anglers can enjoy trout fishing right here in the Lone Star State. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be stocking nearly 280,000 hatchery-reared rainbow trout at 126 sites across the state from December through mid-March. Many of the stockings will be conducted at small community fishing lakes, state park lakes and popular river tailraces that offer easy angling access.
ATHENS—The season’s first stocking of rainbow trout into the ponds and streams at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) will take place December 1.

ATHENS—On November 16 Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries biologists began rebuilding the fishery at Fairfield Lake affected by a serious fish kill in August by stocking 500 largemouth bass up to 16 inches in length into the reservoir.
AUSTIN – Two in-depth articles in the December issue of Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine quote various experts about possible long-term impacts to marine life from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The articles showcase coral reefs and other Gulf of Mexico treasures not widely known that could be affected by the spill.
