Texas Game Warden Training Center Groundbreaking Set for April 9

HAMILTON, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials and partners from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, the Police Activities League and the Texas Game Warden Association will break ground April 9 on the first phase of a planned $20 million training complex in Hamilton County.

ATHENS, Texas- El 2 de mayo la ciudad de Athens celebrará el Cinco de Mayo con una fiesta en Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, el Centro de la Pesca en Agua Dulce de Texas (TFFC por sus siglos en ingles). Situado 75 millas al sureste de Dallas, el centro ofrece una gran fiesta de comida, música, y baile, además de todas las actividades tradicionales del TFFC, tales como la pesca, giras de tranvía, y espectáculos de submarinistas.

ATHENS, Texas—Athens will celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center May 2 with food, music and dancing in addition to the normal TFFC activities such as fishing, tram rides and dive show presentations.

Prolonged Texas Drought Impacts Wildlife

AUSTIN, Texas — Despite welcome rains in late March, much of Texas remains parched by prolonged drought of historic proportions, and wildlife die-offs of whooping cranes and deer have been reported. However, experts say native wildlife evolved to bounce back from drought, and a bigger issue is how human water use is changing the equation, and how drought underscores the need for water planning and conservation.

Boating Accident Victim Recovered from Richland Chambers Reservoir

AUSTIN, Texas — Divers from the Texas Department of Public Safety recovered the body of Jerry King, 72, of Athens from Richland Chambers Reservoir at 9:30 a.m. today. Texas game wardens earlier had identified a return on side-scan sonar that proved to be King.

TPWD Seeks Modest Increase to Licenses, Boat Fees

AUSTIN, Texas — Most hunters, anglers and boaters in Texas could see a modest $2-$4 bump in license and boat registration/titling fees if a proposed 5 percent across-the-board increase is approved in May by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.

Missing Boater Recovered on Belton Lake, Search Continues for 2 on Richland Chambers Reservoir

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Game Wardens today recovered the body of Jarod David Dawkins, 27, who was missing since the boat he was on capsized March 17 near Sparta Valley Park on Belton Lake. Dawkins’ body was recovered at 9:03 a.m. just north of the water treatment plant near Westcliff Park.

Changes in Flounder Regs to go into Effect Sept. 1, 2009

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioners today approved a reduction in the recreational and commercial bag limits for southern flounder and set a reduced bag limit for the month of November with take that month limited to hook and line.
