1st Alamo Extravaganza “Celebration of Choices” Sept. 15 in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — Turning Point, San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Wildlife Association and other partners will host the 1st Alamo Extravaganza “Celebration of Choices” Sep. 15 in San Antonio, providing a setting for people with disabilities to experience fishing, climbing, shooting, kayaking and many other outdoor activities.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department has taken another step to spread the word that “Life’s Better Outside.” On July 25, the award-winning Texas Parks & Wildlife television show began streaming through MyOutdoorTV.com, the world's largest internet video network for outdoor television shows, radio, video, and conservation information.

Hunting, Fishing Licenses Go On Sale Aug. 15

AUSTIN, Texas — New hunting and fishing licenses for 2007-08 will be available beginning Wednesday, Aug. 15, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is encouraging hunters to buy early and avoid the rush heading into the Sept. 1 dove season opener.

Texas Youth Takes Top Honors in National Fish Art Contest

ATHENS, Texas—Clayton Bowen of Eagle Lake won the Art of Conservation Award in Wildlife Forever’s 2007 State-Fish Art Contest, it was announced Saturday at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bowen’s watercolor on canvas paper of a Guadalupe bass diving into the water will be reproduced as a stamp for sale to collectors; proceeds will be used to fund conservation education and aquatic restoration projects across America.

Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Season Opens July 15

AUSTIN — The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for both state and federal waters will open 30 minutes after sunset on Sunday, July 15, 2007. This opening date is based on an evaluation of the biological, social and economic information to maximize the benefits to the industry and the public.

Game Wardens Urge Caution Around Water as Rains Continue Across North and Central Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens are urging Texans to exercise extreme caution in low-lying areas, around lakes and reservoirs and at stream and river crossings as rain continues to fall across a broad swath of North and Central Texas today.

Marina Owner Offers Iraq Vets Free Fishing on Lake Fork

ATHENS, Texas—Joe Axton spent nine years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he’s heard stories of Vietnam veterans being treated poorly on their return home. Now the owner of Axton’s Bass City on Lake Fork, Axton is doing what he can to see the same thing does not happen to military service men and women returning from duty in Iraq.

Seguin Coliseum To Host Funeral for Game Warden Ty Patterson

AUSTIN, Texas — Funeral and visitation services for Game Warden Teyran “Ty” Patterson will take place in Seguin Sunday and Monday, with more than 1,000 people expected to attend. A benefit fund has also been set up at a Seguin bank for donations to support the Patterson family.

One Year Later, Compliance ‘Good’ on Seagrass Regulation

ROCKPORT, Texas — A year after the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission made it illegal to uproot seagrasses with a submerged propeller within the boundaries of the Redfish Bay State Scientific Area, local game wardens are calling compliance with the regulation “good.”
