AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is closing TX-29 in Aransas Bay to commercial and recreational oyster harvest beginning at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023. This area was split at the beginning of the season to allow for harvest in the portion of the area outside Carlos Bay. The Carlos Bay portion of TX-29 was closed at the beginning of the season through management action.
ATHENS – O.H. Ivie Lake remains in the spotlight of the 2023 Toyota ShareLunker collection season with a 13.06-pound largemouth bass caught on Thursday afternoon. ShareLunker 640, landed by Kasey Swan of Jacksboro, is the lake’s seventh overall entry and fifth Legacy Class Lunker in February alone. Swan is the eighth angler to submit a Legacy Lunker this season.
ATHENS – O.H. Ivie kick-started the second month of the 2023 Toyota ShareLunker collection season Thursday afternoon with a pair of Legacy Class Lunkers, followed by one on Friday and another on Sunday to close out the week. This run of Lunkers boosted O.H. Ivie’s season-leading total to six entries. With Lake Nacogdoches’ ShareLunker 634 from Jan. 23 added to the mix, the overall season total stands at seven.
AUSTIN — Every February for the past 21 years, countless volunteers have offered up their time to help search for and remove abandoned crab traps. Crab traps left in the water can foul shrimpers’ nets, snag anglers’ lines and “ghost fish” which allows traps to unintentionally kill fish trapped inside as well as create unseemly views. To date, more than 40,000 abandoned crab traps have been removed from Texas coastal waters.
AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) officials encourage landowners to take advantage of a 60-day U.S. Fish & Wildlife (FWS) endangered species listing extension and consider enrolling in one of the conservation programs that provide protections from federal regulations and exemption from consequences of incidental “take” under the Endangered Species Act.
ATHENS – O.H. Ivie Lake chalked up its second Legacy Class largemouth bass of the 2023 Toyota ShareLunker season Sunday afternoon. Kyle Hall of Granbury hauled in 13.58-pound ShareLunker 635, registering a Legacy Class bass in consecutive seasons. Hall’s fish is the third submitted by anglers during the 2023 collection season.
MATHIS –Park rangers at Lake Corpus Christi State Park are hosting the 31st annual Kid Fish 2023 on Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Young anglers can learn how to fish, enjoy the wonders of outdoor recreation and be a part of the Texas State Parks 100 Years Celebration.
ATHENS – The 2022 Toyota ShareLunker season proved to be monumental, thanks to 350 anglers across the nation who entered 512 Lunker largemouth bass into the program throughout the year. The total included 357 in the Lunker Class (weighing between eight to 9.99 pounds or at least 24 inches), 121 Elite Class (weighing 10 to 12.99 pounds), 24 Legacy Class (weighing 13 pounds or more and caught between Jan. 1 and March 31) and 10 Legend Class Lunkers that were 13 pounds or more caught outside the spawning season.
AUSTIN – O.H. Ivie Lake claimed the first Legacy Class largemouth bass of the 2023 Toyota ShareLunker collection season Sunday for the second consecutive year. Tom Nilssen of New Braunfels landed ShareLunker 633, which registered at 13.52 pounds on the scale. O.H. Ivie has enjoyed a tremendous run of Lunkers, boasting 12 in each of the last two seasons.
