Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Announces Tuesday Closures through February 2019

ATHENS – Beginning Oct. 2, the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) will begin a winter schedule that includes the closure of one additional weekday. TFFC will be closed to the public on Tuesdays from October 2018 through the end of February 2019.

Red Snapper Season Closes in Federal Waters Wednesday, Aug. 22

AUSTIN- The private recreational angler red snapper season in federal waters will close at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. State waters out to nine nautical miles will remain open.

2018-19 Texas Hunting, Fishing Licenses on Sale Wednesday, Aug 15

AUSTIN – With opening of dove hunting season only a couple weeks away, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reminds sportsmen that all current year Texas hunting and fishing licenses (except year-to-date fishing licenses) expire Aug 31. New licenses for 2018-19 go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Texas Game Wardens Stress Continued Water Safety Vigilance

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is urging the public to be extra vigilant when it comes to water safety in the wake of five tragic drownings over the July 4th holiday. Thus far in 2018, there have been 37 open water drownings, compared to 30 over the same time period a year ago.
