Blanco River Named 2018 “Water to Watch” by National Fish Habitat Partnership

AUSTIN – The Blanco River is one of the primary river networks that Central Texas communities depend upon for drinking water, flood abatement, agricultural production and recreation. Thanks to collaborative conservation work conducted by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), landowners and other local partners, the Blanco River was named one of 20 “Waters to Watch” by the National Fish Habitat Partnership in 2018.

TPWD Inland Fisheries Seeking Partners for Habitat Restoration in Texas Reservoirs

AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries staff conduct dozens of habitat restoration projects each year to enhance fish habitat in Texas’ aging reservoirs. But fisheries biologists can’t do these large-scale projects alone, they rely on Friends of Reservoirs partners to help make Texas fishing the best it can be.

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Announces Tuesday Closures through February 2019

ATHENS – Beginning Oct. 2, the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) will begin a winter schedule that includes the closure of one additional weekday. TFFC will be closed to the public on Tuesdays from October 2018 through the end of February 2019.

Red Snapper Season Closes in Federal Waters Wednesday, Aug. 22

AUSTIN- The private recreational angler red snapper season in federal waters will close at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. State waters out to nine nautical miles will remain open.
