Gulf Shrimp Season Closing on Friday, May 15th

AUSTIN – The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for both Texas and federal waters will close 30 minutes after sunset on May 15 until a still-to-be determined time in July.

Toyota Texas Bass Classic Born of Dreams

ATHENS—The Toyota Texas Bass Classic (TTBC) scheduled for May 23—25 on Lake Fork is the world championship of bass fishing, but it was born of a dream to involve more youth in fishing. And that dream was based on the work of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) fisheries biologists who had a vision to make Lake Fork the best bass fishing lake it could be.

Texas Game Wardens Commission 10 New K-9s

AUSTIN – Ten canines are now official state K-9s after receiving their badges and commissions as Texas game wardens. The K-9s were accompanied by their game warden partners during a graduation ceremony at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Austin headquarters this morning.

Lone Star Land Steward Program Celebrates 20th Anniversary

AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) honors the conservation contributions of private landowners each year with its Lone Star Land Steward Award. This year, seven winners representing several of the state’s diverse ecological regions will join the distinguished roster of landowners who have received this recognition. Over the past 20 years, nearly 200 landowners across Texas have been lauded for conserving more than 3 million acres of fish and wildlife habitat.

TPWD Taking Public Comment on Shrimp and Oyster Regulation Proposals

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is currently seeking public comment on proposed changes in commercial shrimp and oyster regulations. The proposals will be considered for adoption by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its May 21 public hearing.
