Rules to Fight Zebra Mussels Take Effect in Additional Counties Sunday

AUSTIN – In the state’s continuing effort to combat the spread of invasive zebra mussels, 30 counties in North and Central Texas will be added effective Sunday, March 23, to the recently-implemented rules requiring that all boats operating on public water be drained after use.

Public Hearing Set for Proposed 160 Acre Public Artificial Reef Site

AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is proposing to create a new 160 acre public artificial reef site south of the Galveston Jetties. The proposed site is six and a half miles from the shoreline in about 48 feet of water.

Texas Lesser Prairie-Chicken Landowner Agreements Reach Record 600,000 Acres

AUSTIN – Eighty-four Texas ranchers in the Panhandle and Rolling Plains have voluntarily enrolled 614,250 acres in conservation agreements for the lesser prairie-chicken, marking one of the largest private landowner commitment to conserve a rare species in Texas history. This comes as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service mulls whether to list the bird under the Endangered Species Act, a decision expected by March 31.
