AUSTIN – As part of National Volunteer Week, April 17 -23, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) along with its partner, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is proud to celebrate Texas Master Naturalists and their work educating Texans about conserving our state’s natural resources.

Seventh Annual Texas City Nature Challenge Encourages Citizen Scientists to Record Nature Observations

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), through the Texas Nature Trackers program, invites Texans to participate in the seventh annual City Nature Challenge, Friday, April 29 through Monday, May 2. This global community-based scientific effort, co-organized by San Francisco’s California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, invites current and aspiring citizen scientists of all ages and backgrounds to observe and submit pictures of wild plants, animals and fungi using the free mobile app iNaturalist.

Sam Rayburn and O.H. Ivie Deliver Two More Lunkers, Season Total Stands at 24

ATHENS – Sam Rayburn Reservoir and O.H. Ivie Lake closed out another incredible Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) 2022 Toyota ShareLunker collection season with two more additions in the final week of March. These latest Legacy Lunkers bring the season total to 24, the most during a January through March timeframe since 1995 (27).

AUSTIN — With more people enjoying the outdoors this spring season, you may start to notice more wildlife in your backyard, neighborhood or surrounding areas. Species including birds, deer and snakes are active this time of year and their young can be mistaken as abandoned. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) experts caution against lending a helping hand.

April is State Parks Month at Whole Earth Provision Co.

AUSTIN— For the 11th year, Whole Earth Provision Co. will celebrate April is Texas State Park Month by hosting a fund drive supporting Texas State Parks. The Texas-based travel, adventure and nature store will give all funds gathered at its seven Texas store locations to help finance day-to-day operational expenses, including enhanced visitor programs, park trail maps and facilities maintenance.

TPWD Asks for Public Input on Roadrunner Conservation License Plate Design

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) asks Texans to weigh in on their favorite designs for a new conservation license plate to support wildlife viewing and nature tourism programs. Voters have until April 21 to complete a short online survey, where they will be able to choose between three images proposed for the  Greater Roadrunner license plate. Survey results will help the agency decide which of three photographic designs should be featured on the new specialty plate.

New Texas Parks and Wildlife Tyler Regional Complex is Open for Business

TYLER– Beginning Monday, March 28, the Tyler community will have a new location to service its boating, fishing and hunting needs. Housing divisions including Texas Game Wardens, Wildlife, Inland Fisheries and State Parks, the facility will act as a one-stop-shop for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) business.

Anglers Add Two More ShareLunkers to 2022 Season Total

ATHENS – The list of ShareLunkers grew by two over the weekend, running the season total at the time to 22, including seven during the first three weeks of March in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) 2022 Toyota ShareLunker collection season.

ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) is the perfect place to kick off the month of April with “Fishing Fools Day,” an event celebrating all things fishing. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 2 at the TFFC in Athens.
