Independent Panel Findings Reveal TPWD’ Strengths, Deficiencies During Rolling Pines Wildfire

AUSTIN—The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) released the findings of an independent panel reviewing the circumstances and cause of an escaped prescribed fire at Bastrop State Park. The findings of the review, also known as a facilitated learning analysis, communicate strengths of TPWD actions during the Rolling Pines Wildfire as well as recommendations for addressing deficiencies, which staff have begun incorporating into the department’s prescribed fire protocols.

AUSTIN – The Texas State Parks Ambassador Program is accepting applications for the newest class of Ambassadors in Panhandle and North Texas State Parks. Applications are due March 30.

ShareLunker Program Enjoys Back-to-Back Double Lunker Weekend

ATHENS – Anglers in Texas reeled in two more Legacy Class largemouth bass for the second consecutive weekend. Possum Kingdom kicked things off Friday afternoon Feb. 18 with its third Legacy Lunker of the 2022 Toyota ShareLunker season after securing the first two a weekend ago. Houston County Lake then followed suit Saturday afternoon Feb. 19 with its first Legacy Class fish since 1990 and in the process became the second consecutive waterbody to record a Legacy fish after a lengthy absence.

Possum Kingdom Delivers First Two February ShareLunkers

ATHENS – Possum Kingdom claimed the first two Legacy Class largemouth bass of the month Saturday, February 12. Steven Davis of Burkburnett, Texas reeled in ShareLunker 615 that morning, which weighed in at 13.20 pounds, followed by Randy Palmer of Arlington, Texas with 13.38-pound ShareLunker 616 later that night. These two Legacy Lunkers bring the 2022 Toyota ShareLunker season total to eight after six came in during the opening month of January.

All-Time Fishing Great to be Inducted into Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame

ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame committee is pleased to announce that professional angler Gary Klein of Mingus, Texas will be inducted into the hall of fame in 2022. Klein has been an anchor in professional fishing for 42-years and an innovator on the cutting edge of the sport. Additionally, Klein generously gives back to the fishing community through volunteer work with kids and military veterans.
