Tell 2018 to Take a Hike with a First Day Hike at a Texas State Park

AUSTIN— Hit the trails at a state park on New Year’s Day and participate in a First Day Hike. As part of the national initiative, Texas State Parks will be hosting a variety of programs for the whole family to enjoy.

Battleship Texas to Re-Open Third Deck, Engine Room Jan. 5

LA PORTE — Operation Full Steam Ahead, the final phase of repairs, cleaning and safety upgrades to the third deck of the Battleship Texas is scheduled to conclude Saturday, January 5. To commemorate the grand re-opening, the Battleship Texas State Historic Site will host a ribbon cutting and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department staff will be leading special tours of the newly opened areas. In honor of the ship’s 104th “berth” year, the first 104 people will be granted free admission.

AUSTIN – After a long, hot summer, many Texans are looking forward to going outside and enjoying the long-awaited cool weather this holiday season. Starting Nov. 30, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be stocking thousands of cold weather-loving rainbow trout at ponds, lakes and rivers statewide so that family members of all ages can enjoy the crisp seasonal air and catch a feisty, colorful sport fish for fun or to prepare a tasty meal.

TPWD Addresses Concerns About Fish, Aquatic Habitat After Heavy Flooding in Central Texas

AUSTIN – As flood waters recede in the Llano, Colorado, Pedernales and other central Texas rivers, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists are fielding questions from anglers and other members of the public concerning the impacts of flooding on fish populations. Although TPWD biologists do not expect to see a negative impact on fish populations in these rivers as a direct result of the flooding, the long-term outlook depends on how riverside landowners and communities respond to the aftermath of downed trees and other debris deposited in and along these rivers.

New Online Features Make Visits to Texas State Parks Easier in 2019

AUSTIN—In 2019, it will be easier than ever to plan day and overnight visits to Texas State Parks thanks to improvements in the online reservation system. The new features will allow visitors to reserve a specific campsite, buy day passes in advance and buy or renew a Texas State Parks Pass online.
