Public Meeting Thursday to Discuss Bastrop State Park Golf Course Area Development

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will hold a meeting this week to hear public comments on the development of the golf course area at Bastrop State Park. The golf course, which closed in 2015, will be repurposed for conservation and recreational uses.

Toyota ShareLunker Program to Begin New Year-Round Season Jan. 1

ATHENS – After more than 31 years of collecting and spawning 13 pound or larger “lunker” largemouth bass, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Toyota ShareLunker Program is announcing big changes and an expanded mission in an effort to better engage the public in the promotion and enhancement of lunker bass fishing in Texas public waters.

TFFC Outdoor Expo Set for Saturday, Sept. 30

ATHENS—The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) is offering visitors on Saturday, Sept. 30, opportunities to learn about a wide range of outdoor skills and participate in family fun events during its annual Outdoor Expo and Bluegill Family Fishing Tournament. The expo will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All kids 12 and under are admitted to TFFC free for this event.

It’s Time for Texas’ Second Annual Pollinator BioBlitz

AUSTIN — In support of Texas’ second statewide Pollinator BioBlitz, organizations and sites around the state will soon be hosting a variety of events to get people outdoors to observe pollinators of all types in yards, natural areas, gardens, parks and community centers. Of course, you don’t have to visit a particular site to participate, your very own yard or green space will do.

TPWD Cancels Public Hunts along Coast Due to Storm Impacts

AUSTIN — Due to impacts from Hurricane Harvey at wildlife management areas (WMA) and state parks along the coast, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is canceling or postponing some scheduled upcoming public hunting activities.

Indian Lodge Closes for Renovation Sept. 5

FORT DAVIS— The 39 guest rooms at Indian Lodge at Davis Mountains State Park will close for renovation starting Sept. 5 until early 2018. The Black Bear Restaurant and the assembly room will remain open throughout the closure.

Mother Neff Log Jam Cleared After Two Years of Flooding

WACO— Thanks to the efforts of several partners, the half mile long log jam that has clogged a portion of the Leon River near Mother Neff State Park has been cleared.
