Unique Collaboration Reveals Dinosaurs Once Roamed San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Texas Parks & Wildlife and the Witte Museum have formed a new partnership to document and research the only known dinosaur footprints on public land in Bexar County. The 110-million-year-old tracks are located within Government Canyon State Natural Area and are believed to have been left by Acrocanthosaurus and Sauroposeidon dinosaurs.

TPWD Sets Public Meeting Announcing Caddo Lake WMA Duck Blind Prohibition

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is announcing plans to prohibit permanent duck blinds on the Caddo Lake Wildlife Management Area effective the 2015-16 waterfowl season to resolve escalating public use conflicts and natural resource issues. A public meeting outlining the decision and plans for removal of permanent duck blinds is set for 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 in the Caddo Lake State Park Group Recreation Hall.

Powderhorn Ranch Becomes Largest Conservation Investment in Texas History

HOUSTON — A multi-partner coalition including the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPW) Foundation today announced the purchase of the 17,351-acre Powderhorn Ranch along the Texas coast in Calhoun County. The acquisition will conserve a spectacular piece of property that is one of the largest remaining tracts of unspoiled coastal prairie in the state. At $37.7 million it is the largest dollar amount ever raised for a conservation land purchase in the state and represents a new partnership model of achieving conservation goals in an era of rapidly rising land prices. In years to come, Powderhorn Ranch is expected to become a state park and wildlife management area.

Two Texas Parks and Wildlife Properties Achieve International ‘Dark Sky’ Status

TUCSON, Ariz. – Texas state parks remain among the few public places in one of the nation’s most populous and increasingly urbanized states where the starry heavens can be viewed in all their celestial glory with the minimal intrusion of artificial light. Copper Breaks State Park in the Panhandle Plains and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in the Hill Country are the first Texas state parks to be designated International Dark Sky Parks by the International Dark-Sky Association.
