Centennial Time Capsule Moves to Davis Mountains State Park

AUSTIN— The Centennial Time Capsule, which encompasses 100 years of Texas State Parks history, is once again on the move and enroute to its winter home at Davis Mountains State Park as part of its 50-year trek to every state park across the Lone Star State. The time capsule, which houses one object from every state park and support program, went on display at Mother Neff State Park in April.

HOUSTON – On Oct. 4, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will officially launch its 90th paddling trail at Greens Bayou in Houston.

TPWD Announces Habitat and Angler Access Program Projects for 2026-27

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has chosen 11 new projects to be supported by the Habitat and Angler Access Program (HAAP) during its 2026-27 funding cycle. Launched in summer 2021, the Habitat and Angler Access Program is primarily funded by the purchase of freshwater fishing licenses.

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center to Reopen Oct. 8

ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) will reopen Oct. 8 following the completion of emergency repairs to a steel structural support column in the main visitor center building. The visitor center has remained closed since emergency repairs began in early August.

Wildlife Health Alert: Texans Encouraged to Stay Vigilant for New World Screwworms

AUSTIN — On Sept. 21, Mexico’s National Service of Agro-Alimentary Health, Safety, and Quality (SENASICA) confirmed a positive detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in a cow in Sabinas Hidalgo, located in Nuevo León, Mexico, about 70 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. Preliminary reports indicate the cow had been moved to a certified feedlot from a region in southern Mexico with known NWS cases.
