Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to Hold Regional Public Hearings in Panhandle May 22-24

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission is extending an invitation to the public to attend upcoming regional public hearings in the Panhandle May 22-24. The Commission is holding these meetings in Amarillo and Lubbock to receive input from stakeholders and constituents concerning any issues relating to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department policies, goals, programs, and responsibilities.

TPWD Projects 82-Day Red Snapper Season for Private Recreational Anglers in Federal Waters

AUSTIN- Private recreational anglers fishing in federal waters off the Texas coast will see a projected 82-day season starting June 1 under an agreement between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). This is an increase of 40 days from last year’s red snapper season.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to Revisit Air Gun/Air Bow Rules at May Public Meeting

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has delayed until its public meeting in Lubbock on May 24 any final rulemaking on the use of air guns and air bows as legal means for taking certain game animals, game birds, alligators and furbearers.  At the meeting the Commission expects to hear further public input and to receive additional data from TPW staff.

TPWD Sets Public Meetings to Gather Input on Red Snapper Exempted Fishing Permit Application

AUSTIN- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is seeking public input on a proposed plan that, if approved by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), would allow the state to manage the recreational red snapper season in federal waters during 2018 and 2019. TPWD projects state waters to remain open 365 days a year.

TPWD Taking Public Comment on Proposed Changes to Hunting Regulations

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is now accepting public comment on a suite of proposed changes to this year’s hunting regulations, which include: a unified statewide deer season opener, legalizing air guns and air bows for hunting certain wildlife species, and a reduction of the spring Eastern turkey season.

Public Hearings set for Proposed Panhandle Mule Deer Regulation Changes

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has set three public hearings in the Panhandle to seek public comment on two proposed mule deer hunting regulation changes.  The proposals are to open a mule deer season in Lynn County and initiate an experimental antler restriction in Briscoe, Childress, Cottle, Floyd, Motley, and Hall counties.

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Texas Trustees Release Restoration Plan for Texas Gulf Coast

TEXAS—The Texas Trustee Implementation Group (TIG) has released its first restoration plan, selecting 13 restoration projects to compensate for injuries to natural resources caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Texas Trustee Implementation Group Final 2017 Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment: Restoration of Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats; and Oysters, was published on October 18, 2017, and prioritizes restoration projects for oysters and wetlands, coastal, and nearshore habitats with a total estimated cost of $45,761,000. TPW Commission Adopts New Rules for Statewide Oyster Fishery

AUSTIN- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopted new regulations for the statewide oyster fishery last week that reduce commercial possession limits, establish additional harvest restrictions and close additional bays to oyster harvest. The new rules affect both the recreational and commercial harvest of oysters.
